Deep Core
This sector is at the very heart of the galaxy, and was a very small sector. Due to the gravitational pull of all the stars swirling around in the center of the galaxy, the local space-time made it dangerous for hyperspace travel. The Emperor found several safe hyperlanes into this region during his rule, and was an Imperial stronghold for decades after the Battle of Endor.

Core Worlds
Bordering the Deep Core, the Core Worlds are some of the most well known, developed, and heavily populated planets in the galaxy. Most galaxy wide governments started out in the Core Worlds, then spread outwards.

Colonies
This is the area between the Core Worlds and the Inner Rim. It was among the first areas outside of the Core to be colonized, and most of the worlds here are heavily populated and industrialized.

Inner Rim
For centuries, the Inner Rim, known as "The Rim" was thought to be the farthest extent of the Known Galaxy. Now it lies between the Expansion Region and the Colonies. The Inner Rims never really participated in rebellion, anyone who resented the Empire fled to the Outer Rim Territories. As a result, the Inner Rim has often changed from being an Empire territory and a New Republic territory.

Expansion Region
The Expansion Region is known for its corporate-controlled worlds, with powerful corporations exploiting from the planets for their natural resources. The oppression for the inhabitants eventually led to civil unrest and the Galactic Republic eventually took control and limited/evicted corporate interests. Expansion Region still are producers of raw materials and ores, although many of their natural resources were exhausted by the Imperial Era.

Mid Rim
The Mid Rim has fewer resources then its neighboring region, and so the residents of the Mid Rim have to work hard for what they have. Some planets have built up good economies, although pirate raiders are known to be hiding in the region.

A region of the galaxy that is between the borders of the Mid and Outer Rim, it is controlled by the Hutts, the last remains of the ancient Hutt Empire.

Outer Rim
The Outer Rim Territories is the last widely settled expanse before Wild Space and the Unknown Regions. Mostly it has obscure worlds, and rugged, primitive frontier planets. Because it is so far away from the Core planets, the Rebel Alliance originally gained a foothold in this area.

Wild Space
This is the frontier of the galaxy, separating the known parts of the galaxy from the Unknown Regions. One of Palpatine's last acts was to open up this region to extensive exploration. This area is more explored than the Unknown Regions.
