Abandoned Pirate Stronghold

The wind and snow was non-existent as a matte black T-Wing interceptor zipped down into the still sky of Ilum.
Not alone, the small starfighter was followed by two more craft; the larger a sleek 200m long Chiss Corvette escorted by a single Niss-Class Clawcraft.

The trio of craft made their way towards the plateau shoulder of a large mountain top, the unbroken white blanket of snow that covered the surface gleaming from the faint light shining from the systems far away star.

As the craft began their landing cycles, coming to land upon the icy surface, the heat of their repulsors melted wide swaths of snow, causing icy rivulets of runoff to snake liquid trails down the side of the plateau.

The Chiss precision in landing the Corvette upon the relatively small oval shaped shoulder was a feat of piloting that evoked a nod of grudging respect from Karrn, his own small starfighter having set down, and promptly sinking a few meters, in the deep snow nearer the mountain face.
As for the Clawcraft, choosing not land, it circled the immediate area in a radiating pattern, scanning for any surprises.

Karrn, with his flight suit zipped up to the neck and a thick vest on, emerged from his fighter to see a wide entrance ramp extend from the side of the Chiss Corvette, allowing a small group; perhaps 5 in all, to disembark.

Hooking a bulky, if lithe, leg over the side of the 'Point's cockpit, Karrn vaulted into the air, landing upon the soft surface with a splash of white powder.

Looking up to see if the Chiss were moving towards him, and wondering where this base was they referred to, Twoo'ami was disappointed and annoyed to see the entire away team compliment swarming underneath the Chiss Corvette.

With a growl, the Dark Cathar began to slog through the snow towards his Soldier's position, wondering what in Chaos they were doing.

They should be attending me! This insolence will not be forgotten! he fumed privately as he moved closer.

Taking a clearer look at the Chiss, he saw four tall males, in combat fatigues and toting blaster rifles, checking the landing gear while clearing the snow from the claws, and a single short straight backed female observing.

Storming up to them, Karrn was about to unload as the Chiss female turned towards him, revealing the pristine and angular features of blue skin, a lifted button nose, razor sharp cheek bones, thin angled eyebrows, a severe thin lipped mouth, and glowing red eyes.

Opening his fanged maw to begin the tongue lashing, Karrn was interrupted as the woman bit off a quick sentence in the Chiss trade language, "Our first discovery, Explorer..." and her hand swept the scene, encompassing the soldier's efforts as her language belied her displeasure, just as her flashing eyes narrowed in disgust at Karrn. It was obvious she didn't like the Cathar one bit...

Below the Chiss craft, covered by ice and snow now being removed, was the beginnings of a landing platform tarmac. This was no random shoulder on a mountain range, this was a landing pad....

Spinning on the Chiss female, Karrn let out a sudden growl of warning anger. Yemble blanched and her body instinctively fell into a ready stance, though she succeeded in keeping her nerve as her cold face displayed no emotion. Stalking directly for the women, the Chiss soldiers straightened in mild alarm, but Twoo'ami did not attack, instead choosing to lash poisonous words at the Crahsystor, his voice a throaty whip, "Hear me, female! Name me Twoo'ami, name me Commander, name me Woe to those who would oppose my Will. Learn this well, for though we are allies in this trek, should you choose to cross me, I will destroy you. Understood?!"

The anger coursing though his thick body lent strength to Karrn as he brought the manifestation of his will to bare, using the hot torrents of Force bubbling inside and flung his remaining hand at Yemble in a sharp 'push' motion.

Her face becoming more obstinent and sour as the Cathar spoke, the ramrod straight Crahsystor's opened her tiny mouth to retort as her blinding red eyes flared in anger and then fairly popped in surprise as she was blown backwards in a gangly somersault of flailing arms and legs.

Crashing amidst the snow, the Chiss soldiers seemed to be confused as what to do, but aimed their blastor rifles at Karrn anyway.

His voice only a low growl, it reached all who listened, cutting through the crisp air on the wings of the Dark Side, Twoo'ami brought his mechanical fist up and slowly closed it as he spat, "Name me Dark Jedi and despair those who would be my enemies."

The Crahsystor picked herself up as the Chiss soldiers looked to her for guidance, but there was only fear in her eyes.
Shifting his gaze to each Chiss aiming at him in turn, all were cowed under his narrowed eyes and ferocious demeanor. Yemble was brushing herself off as she gave a bark in the Chiss language. The soldiers stood down.

Karrn flashed a predators grin as he thought Fear I can work with and growled, "Find me this beacon, secure the ruins."

With that, the Dark Cathar whirled away, his dark brown cloak lifting in the air as he stalked towards the mountain, ready to do some exploring of his own.

The Chiss soldiers had come out in numbers then, leaving only 4 to watch the ship along with the Clawcraft circling above.

Periodic reports from the ship confirmed that the surrounding wilderness was devoid of any other settlements or fortifications.

Karrn had quickly discovered, beneath the layers of icy snow cover, the beginnings of a large sealed entrance way.

The Chiss began to dig out what turned out to be the large metal doors of a Hanger bay; no doubt used to store fighters and perhaps larger craft that were then towed out to the landing pad for lift off.

Hours went by as the Chiss began to uncover the large entry way, while Karrn went off to explore the mountain itself, using a Chiss scanner to zero in on the beacon's faint signature. It felt good to get away, to be alone and explore the snowy wilderness of Ilum. The Cathar scrambled among the icy ridges and cliffs of the mountain the base had been built into, moving towards where ever the signal was strongest

Some distance below the landing pad shoulder of the mountain, after glimpsing beautiful vistas and dizzying drops to a frozen valley below, Karrn's scanner suddenly got a stronger lock on the transmitter signal and an audio feed in Galactic Basic began to play...

::skkkkrt!! ...tion! Repeat, Restricted System under Imperial Order 30056, subsection Quarentine. All non-Imperial craft and personal in system are in violation of Imperial Sovereignty and will be fired upon. Proceed away from system for your own safety. Attention! Repeat, Restricted...::

and the message continued on a loop. Snorting in disgust, Karrn continued on as he shut the audio off, following the beacon's signal until he stood at the entrance of a large circular cave, ice stalagtites hanging menacingly like the fangs of some fell beast.

All was quiet on the inside as Karrn stepped in from out of the crisp clear day and activated the mini-light located in the knuckle of his mechanical hand. Pointing the small amount of illumination around the cave, the Cathar saw snow was piled up high here at the front, but that the cave continued further in.

Nodding to himself, the Explorer continued and quickly scramble climbed up the snow drift, sinking down to his knees as he messily clambered to the top and then rolled over.

Losing his footing, the Cathar continued to roll down to the bottom of the icy drift, snow flakes invading every open cravace they could find in his suit. Already the cold of the world had entered his body and he barely felt the fury fingers he had remaining. Still, picking himself up with an annoyed grunt, Twoo'ami continued on.

Moving forward without fear or stealth, his boots crunching in the hardpacked snow, Karrn kept his mechanical hand out in front as it's meager light added a small glow of illumination to the surroundings.

The walls and ceiling gleamed with reflected illumination as the Cathar explorer continued down the tunnel as it began to angle upwards.

*crunch, crunch, thump!*

Looking down, Twoo'ami saw the floor had turned from hardpack to metal plating. A feral grin washed over his wide feline features as Karrn continued on upwards, the imperial beacon was coming in very clearly now, he was on the right track.

The icy rock walls and ceiling suddenly ended and shifted into a gunmetal gray metal corridor, consistent with the floor Karrn had been following.

Eagerly ascending the angular corridor, Twoo'ami's efforts were rewarded as his tiny light flashed upon a silvery door blocking his way some 10meters ahead. Mentally congratulating himself, the Cathar moved eagerly forward.... that's when the alarms started to go off and an angry red light began strobe flashing from above the door.

Skidding to a halt, Karrn stowed the scanner in his belt as squealing metallic clicks joined the cacauphony and the metal walls on either side of the door parted. Clicking foot steps heralded the arrival of a pair of spidery BT-16 perimeter droids, their repeating blaster cannons whirling in readiness after being dormant for so long....

Snarling in an odd amalgam of condemnation and glee, the Cathar felt the Force singing in his pointed fur ears. Springing with unmatched agility upwards and to the left, he quickly drew his heavy blaster with only his meaty right hand. Already bouncing off the wall as the sound of blaster cannon fire ricocheted around the enclosed corridor, the droids quickly followed Karrn's body. Either the Cathar moved to quickly or their program had deteriorated to the point that all they sought was the kill, not any semblance of calculation of trajectories.

The ancient S-5 blaster bucked in his hand as Twoo'ami squeezed the trigger, catching the BT-16 on the right with a few damaging blasts.

Karrn smashed into the ceiling, snarling in painful anger as he realized he'd run out of head space. Gravity snatched him fully with its downward seeking ways, as the Dark Side burned in his soul. Anger evolved into Fury as Karrn threw his mechanical hand downwards, pushing off the ground to stabilize himself as the battle droids fired madly into the air, the angle so steep for the cannons housed underneath their gleaming arachnid bodies.

Belching more powerful blasts, the S-5 finally tore a hole through the already damaged perimeter droid's main processor was obliterated. Coming down hard, Karrn's legs absorbed the shock naturally and he sprinted forward into the deadly blaster fire.

Dodging left and right, attempting to stay one step ahead of the remaining BT-16, the Cathar dropped his blaster reflexively as fell forward into a crouch. A trio of the cannon's blasts singed Karrn's broad shoulders as he took position and launched himself forward and up with all four powerful appendages.

Karrn was too close, the angle of the corridor and the placement of the droid's cannon were too perfect. Whirring in mechanical victory, the battledroid belched forth scorching death.

A fiery orange blade appeared so suddenly, lighting the corridor with it's fell radiance, the blasts were eclipsed and then savagely batted away as Karrn dropped before the droid, giving a powerful two handed chop down, his black hilted lightsaber bisecting the droid with a slight ummmmmmmmm

When Karrn returned topside, it was with hunched aching shoulders, for the fight had proved challenging.

The Chiss had cleaned off a good portion of the landing pad and fully uncovered the large bay doors. A slighter more lanky Chiss trooper worked at the manuel control box they'd found buried in the snow near the dark Metal hanger entrance.

Stalking over the last ridge line, Karrn witnessed the Chiss' squealing admittance into the upper reaches of the mountain concealed outpost. They entered quickly in tight military formation. Yemble was no where to be seen.

The Chiss guarding the perimeter caught sight of their Cathar Commander and sent word of his arrival.

Stepping onto the uncovered tarmac, Karrn felt it to be colder than the snow some how and still frustratingly slippery.

Her sharp angled movements coming into view down the entrance ramp of the Chiss Corvette, Karrn noted Yembles return with an imperious momentary glare before looking back at the open bay doors.

"You've been wounded." her voice floated through the snow, not stopping for a pause in the statement, "We have breached this place. It will be ours soon, for none have claim to it."

The Cathar fairly spat back, "How nice for you. Assemble a team, I found a side entrance. Warn the troopers that the Empire left traps afore they pulled out. Get a large power source ready too, I'm sure your ship has a spare. We're making ourselves at home here. I want a full read out of every level and room by morning. Oh, and get me a squarking medic!"

Twoo'ami finished with an annoyed shout, sending the Chiss Crahsystor taking a defensive step backwards at the Cathar's displeasure.

Her voice was tight with precise order as she responded, "It will be so...Commander." With that, she spun on her heel and returned to the bowels of her ship, no doubt cursing the Aristoca all the way.

Karrn sported a satisfied smirked as he went into a crouch, and mused, These Chiss sure learn fast.

Having moved the Duskpoint into the cavernous hanger bay the Chiss had secured right off, Karrn now sat in a shadowy corner. Spreading his rough dark brown cloak, the Cathar meditated on the past, present, and future.

Karrn's skin felt warm to the touch, his fur a pleasant layer buffering his body from the cold air of the large Hanger Bay.
The Chiss clawcrafts stood in crisp array around the largest ship, a small 200m Chiss Corvette. Karrn's own speedy fighter, the DuskPoint, stood off to one side, closer to the exit.

The Cathar Force User could feel the Chiss moving throughout the complex, even as the faint sounds of blaster fire reached his keen ears. They'd pushed the meager defense into a last stand, the soldiers coming from above and below due to Karrn's discovery of a small side entrance.

Now he felt one of the 34 other sentients move towards him and clear her throat being followed by quick clipped monotone words, "Twoo'ami, I have the read out you've requested. The complex is ours. Our efforts continue to retrofit and amalgamate it's systems. There is nothing left. All has been stripped."

Her report ended, the Chiss Crahsystor simply stood at crisp attention, her head lifted proudly upwards.

Karrn's cold red eyes remained hidden as he gave his pronouncement from his cross legged position upon the Bay floor.
His voice soft and husky, this was perhaps the most calm Yemble had ever seen the Cathar, as he explained, "Continue the process here Crahsystor, I want this outpost to be a stronghold for our operations in this sector. We go to confront the Vagaari, in service of the Chiss Empire. Your Aristoca wishes the purity of the Chiss to spread and I shall make it so, as it pleases me."
The Dark Side hung like a heavy stench around Karrn as he spoke, his will and poisonous logic spreading to Crahsystor Yemble, her red eyes dulling.
Twoo'ami continued to entrance his servant as he spoke quietly, mysteriously, "Make this place worthy of the Chiss. I go to bring allies in the coming battle, for the Vagaari threat will not be put down with out sufficient might."

Rising suddenly, Karrn's powerful furred hand snatched up his cloak and the stout Cathar jolted forward. Yemble scrambled out of the Dark Jedi's path, as Twoo'ami swept his cloak about him and shouted behind his shoulder, "Prepare a chamber for my return, relay any messages from Csilla, and observe closely any who enter this system. If victory is assured, eliminate them. I shall return, wait for my signal Yemble."

Dismissing the Chiss with a sweep of his hand, Karrn climbed into the comfortable seat of the DuskPoint and started the takeoff cycle.

As the Chiss Crahsystor moved back to bring her troops their orders, the sleek matte black T-Wing blasted off into the blinding Ilum daylight.

Abandoned Pirate Stronghold

The Chiss had been working for days on end now, putting their efforts into the task at hand; readying this abandoned husk of an outpost into a working underground facility, complete with command center, barracks, mess hall, detention bloc, machine room, and the main asset, a huge secluded hanger bay.

Crahsystor Yemble had done her job well, keeping her troopers working and moving, preparing for the eventually return of the Cathar. Shivering and not just from the cold of the upper reaches of the hanger bay, the Chiss female did not look forward to that reunion and deeply wished she and her crew would be called back to Csilla soon.

Still, until that time she had a job to do.

Illumination bloomed slowly as the large bleak ceiling lamps began to come online one after the other; the hanger had light.

Nodding in satisfaction, she thought to herself, now let's see if we can get the heating systems working in this tomb...for Twoo'ami... smirking at her own joke, the Crahsystor continued in her present duty.
