"Camping."

No other words were spoken as Crow seized the old man's arm and almost launched him into the air, proceeding to heave the sack of bones onto his shoulder as he marched out of the brig. As he moved ever closer to the loading bay, Crow couldn't help but wonder why Berlin insisted on giving him, as organics called it, "a hard time". It was evident Berlin knew of his true status as a machine, but why would he bother with the petty insults and the coy words? Would he ever learn that any droid would lack care if it was verbally abused?

With a shake of his head and an increase in speed, Crow grumbled as he realized he wasn't just any droid.

She heard footsteps.

Footsteps that sounded like they belonged to a 6'10", 460 pound Kiffar. Vyra peeked around the corner of the corridor she'd just come down.

Her suspicions were correct.

Crow was lumbering down the hallway with a package on his shoulder, making good speed despite it. No, not a package.

A man.

Vyra squinted at the scene, attempting to identify the man slung over the Kiffar's shoulder, but he was moving too fast. Tucking a stray lock of brown hair behind her ear, she trotted out from behind her corner and moved at a brisk jog towards Crow, her durable leather boots clomping loudly.

"Hey!...Crow, slow it down. I have a question for you."

None of the rank and file assembled for the expedition moved...so neither did Peko. Her grey eyes stared forward, oddly blank, at nothing as the Captain inspected them. Her breathing was slow and controlled, each breath deliberate, in, out, in, out. Her hands flexed slightly over the armor plating her legs. There was already another plan forming. An INSANE one, and probably not one that would keep Lady Salicaire away from the rancor entirely, but it might keep her alive, and it might drum up some much-needed answers. She HAD to get to Dathomir on this expedition, she COULD NOT let Lady Salicaire leave without following her like a shadow. There was just one thing in the way at the moment.

Or to be more correct, one man.The same man that had been in the way for so long, the Captain himself

Three years. Nearly three years of keeping out of this man's way, taking every precaution to avoid his disturbing stare, and now here he was, most likely using the Force to probe the minds of the men in front of her. From the way his eyes flicked from face to face, it was all too obvious what he was looking for: loyalty. Absolute loyalty to him, Lecter Siralis. And he would find it in most, if not all. Some, like Reyna, wooed by his promises of wealth and rare treasures, others through fear, still more through the sick kind of attraction weak people have for those with power (the wave of revulsion that came with the memory of Toady came to mind) .

And her? What would the Captain find when he looked into the face of his unregarded mechanic, and used his newly-honed ability to reach for her mind...

and found nothing?

He might miss her. Peko was, after all, behind Reyna, who was a veritable giant of a woman. And Crow might come back from wherever the hell he went before she was found hiding in this group where she didn't belong. She might get lucky...

Of course, Peko's luck hadn't been good lately.

"Vyra Salicaire, you are required at the bridge."

Crow didn't slow down as the kidnapped woman had commanded. And why should he have to? She was nothing more than cargo, simply an extension of the Captain's wishes. Nothing more than his tool. Siralis had no respect for her, and when he was done with her, Salicaire shared the same fate as any other tool under the Captain's command. Hell, Crow wasn't even sure if he was permitted to speak to her, let alone answer her questions.

But that was just it, wasn't it?

Vyra Salicaire was nothing but a tool to the Captain? So was Crow. Nothing more than cargo as far as the captain was concerned? Crow drew a similarity there as well. Lacking in respect? No doubt. And there was 100 % certainty in Crow's CPU that he was as good as finished when his usefulness expired; Lecter was powerful. While Crow could not detect this "Force" in living beings, he could read radiated energy signatures from almost anything that had some type of outlet.

And Captain Lecter Siralis was burning with whatever it was that gave him his power.

Crow slowed down as he drew the final parallel: all other things remaining equal, his existence would be promptly terminated once Siralis accomplished his goal. As would Salicaire's. Things being as they were, Crow and Vyra were more alike than either would have liked to admit to.

Slowing to a stop just before the stairs, he turned around to face the captive woman, hiding his left hand behind his back.

"What is it you wish, Vyra Salicaire?"

"The bridge?" Vyra echoed as she sped up to catch up with Crow. For a moment, it looked like he wasn't going to stop his determined stride, but he stopped just short of the stairs, turning about to face her. Vyra knew quite well that he didn't have to acknowledge her. What had changed his mind, she wondered?

She stopped a few feet from him and craned her neck upwards. Vyra ran her questioning gaze over the man on his shoulder, but asked nothing about the subject...she had a feeling he wouldn't tell her anyway.

"I was wondering where-..." She paused as Crow smoothly tucked his left hand behind his back. If she hadn't already been widely aware of things, Vyra wouldn't even have seen the movement, much less though anything of it. But now that she thought about it, she'd seen him perform the same movement on at least one other occasion.

Odd, she thought, but she didn't have time to ask questions about it.

"-...where are we going? And will I need this?" Vyra hoisted the Rawk up near her shoulder.
"There is always hope."

"No."

Crow didn't bother to answer her previous question, as their destination was unimportant then and there. Right then, she had to get to the loading bay, and they were due in Dathomir airspace in less than five minutes. In addition, Crow's energy signatures regarding Vyra were certainly higher than normal. Not by much, but there was certainly an affinity for "Energy X" within her. And her bracelet?

A single piece of jewelry outclassed Lecter's output reading across the board.

Crow made a note to analyze more of this mysterious energy, and more importantly, just why it seemed so familiar. But the droid felt that now was not the time for such musings. Now was the time for action. Namely, getting back what was his. It would be a risky maneuver with such a strange person holding his treasured weapon, so much so that it could blow his cover.

But that's MY shotgun, dammit.

Crow moved the fastest he ever had outside of a combat situation. He launched his hand out from behind his back, twisting his arm halfway through the throw, maneuvering the metal appendage to hide behind the gun. Snatching it with a barely audible clank and even quieter servos discreetly betraying his identity, he removed the Rawk from Vyra's hands before she could even blink.

"Vyra Salicaire, you are required at the bridge."

As the machine turned once again, his HUD went frantic with information. Crow's curiosity could wait no longer; he had to know this information right now.

"Don't worry about me," Berlin said in a voice that was just slightly louder than normal conversation. His tone sounded resigned, but the underlying amusement, even mocking, was evident. "I'm just a piece of camping equipment..."

He let his voice trail off towards the end, then grinned slightly as Crow shot his hand out from behind his back, whispering, "You may want to invest in some gloves there.." He spoke so quietly that even a human nearby would have been hard-pressed to make out the individual words, but Berlin knew that Crow was no human; he knew that the droid had heard him.

Whether the droid responded was another thing entirely.

The prisoner almost let out a sigh, but managed to hold it in; as first impressions went, this was NOT the one he had planned with "the Jade's wife".. Not that he really had had one planned anyway.

But he could still make things work, given just enough time. He had to. Peko trusted him, and he wasn't going to let her down.
Broken desolation,
Every hope now lays alone.
Trust forever shaken,
Reaching out to the unknown.
All the times we had and shared,
You push them to the past.
Afterwards I've come to see,
Love can never last.

"Silence."

Shifting his hands suddenly, Crow grabbed his treasured shotgun with his "organic" hand, holding Berlin with the icy metal grip that his exposed hand had to offer. In retaliation for Berlin's crack, Crow's grip got ever tighter, slowly digging into the old man's kidney. When the time came, the droid mused, he would very much enjoy beating the old man to a pulp.

Unfortunately, that time could only come once Peko was out of the picture, and such a time didn't seem to be in the foreseeable future.

The machine took a look at his HUD, where the analysis of Peko's "Force" output finally came out. Most normal people had a small output, only enough to qualify as an organic (which, funnily enough, seemed to be the only type of structure capable of emitting such an energy). Lecter's reading was significantly high, so much so that bringing him down all by Crow's lonesome seemed impossible. The bracelet around the cargo's wrist was off the charts, eclipsing the Captain's already formidable potential. And Peko's?

Respectable.

It was by no means a match for the jewel or the Captain, but Peko certainly had a high output of Energy X. Much higher than everybody on the ship, save for the two powerhouses already aboard. In fact, it seemed as if Peko had the capacity to be a Jedi. Might not have been possible thanks to her being born roughly around the fall of the Galactic Empire, but what if she had? Would it be another bridge between her and Crow's target? Or simply coincidence?

Crow finished moving up the stairs as he felt a massive lurch and took a step forward, preventing him from falling on his metal face. Standing up in the middle of the main cabin, he zoomed in through the open bridge door and through the viewport.

Where he found the foreboding mass of Dathomir seeming to gaze right back at him.

"Required at the bridge," Vyra echoed in an irritated tone as Crow lumbered away, the strange man still slung over his shoulder, much in the fashion that she'd been carried away from Mon Calamari, she mused. "Fine. Just fine! I'm wanted at the bridge, and God forbid I keep anyone waiting...."

Muttering all manor of complaining under her breath, Vyra trailed far behind Crow, keeping him in her sights. Her fingers idly played with the wristband on her left arm. Feeling the smoothness of the silvery gems, the slightly rough feel of the twisted fabric woven around each stone...it brought her comfort, and much needed familiarity. She needed that right now, and Vyra grasped it with a death grip. The saber hilt in her boot was still a calming cool.

She'd done her best to ignore it, but ever since her arrival, there had been a slight tugging in the Force, and it was getting stronger every hour. It had remained under the radar, something that didn't warrant her attention. But it was getting annoying, and the more she tried to ignore it, the more the Force seemed to pry open the connection she 'd worked so hard to keep closed.

I hate you, she said to the Force quietly in her head, You will not reenter my life so you can screw it up again.

If she had cared to listen, she would have recognized the warning tug...

Taking extra care, Vyra glided up the stairs leading to the bridge, and stopped dead as her eyes scanned the viewport. People bustled everywhere. But it wasn't the people that caught her eye.

It was the planet looming in front of the ship.
"There is always hope."
